What is Urban Wildlife Explorers?
Urban Wildlife Explorers came about because I (Siski Kalla) grew up in London and was always disappointed when books about nature focused on the countryside. I wanted to know more about the wildlife I could see and hear myself in the city and I wanted to know where to look, too. So I decided to set up a website and write and illustrate books on it! I also want to provide children with ideas for things they can do to help animals as that's something I was desperate to do too, as a child, and often felt that helping was out of reach. So my goal is to provide children (and their families) with ways to make change and to become "spokeschildren" for wildlife everywhere.
My daughter Lili, writes for the website too. She says: As a kid, I was always taught to be curious about the environment and to learn as much as I could about the insects and animals living in my backyard, but nowadays it's much harder, as we live in a technology driven society, and most information is online. This website will explore the ways we can interact with nature and learn about it at that same time, as well as information that could help in any future animal encounters."
We love learning about the wildlife all around us, from the tiny insects or arachnids (like this crab spider, below) all the way up to apex predators such as the urban fox and peregrine falcon.

That's a macro photo of a tiny weeny spider on my finger! My skin looks interesting this close up, right?!
